How long do cats live?

The lifespan of a cat can vary greatly depending on a number of factors, including breed, size, and overall health. On average, domestic cats live anywhere from 12 to 15 years, with some living well into their 20s. However, it's not uncommon for cats to live shorter or longer lives depending on their individual circumstances.  Certain breeds of cats, such as Siamese and Russian Blues, tend to have longer lifespans compared to other breeds. Larger cats, such as Maine Coons, also tend to have longer lifespans than smaller breeds.  The overall health and lifestyle of a cat can also play a significant role in its lifespan. 

Cats that are well cared for and live indoor-only lifestyles tend to live longer than those that are allowed to roam outside, as outdoor cats are more prone to accidents and injuries. Providing your cat with a healthy diet, regular veterinary care, and a safe living environment can all contribute to a longer lifespan.  It's important to note that while cats can live long and healthy lives, they are prone to certain health conditions as they age. These can include kidney disease, dental problems, and obesity, among others. Regular veterinary check-ups and a proactive approach to your cat's health can help to identify and manage any potential issues early on.
